OPEN CALLS FOR VISUAL ARTISTS

Inhabiting the Same Moon | 2026 Edition International Open Call for Visual Artists

A postal art exchange project that connects artists from around the world through original artwork.

Box de Arte Curatorial Argentina launches the Artemis II 2026 Edition of Inhabiting the Same Moon, its international artist postcard exchange project — a free open call for visual artists from anywhere in the world, celebrating original artwork, physical postal mail and genuine encounters between creators.

A work that travels, a collection that grows

There is something that artists from around the world share without knowing it: the same Moon. That symbolic surface that has inhabited the human imagination since the beginning of time is the starting point of Inhabiting the Same Moon, one of the most distinctive international art projects in the Latin American circuit: a postal art exchange that transforms geographical distance into raw material for creation.

In its Artemis II Edition · Friendship Day 2026, the project once again brings together visual artists from all disciplines — painters, printmakers, photographers, illustrators, sculptors — to take part in an exchange that is, above all else, an act of trust in the language of art as a bridge between people.

How to be part of this gathering?

This call for visual artists invites artists (of legal age according to their respective country). Each participant creates 4 original postcards measuring 10 x 15 cm landscape or vertical — in any technique, from watercolor to woodcut, printmaking, acrylic or printed photography — interpreting the Moon through their own artistic vision.

Of those four works, three are sent by physical postal mail to artists in other countries, assigned through a public draw. In return, each artist receives three original postcards from peers around the world, forming a unique personal collection of original artwork that bears witness to a specific moment in art history.

The fourth postcard remains in the hands of its creator, and may be submitted to a selection jury of qualified specialists, with recognition awarded to the 10 best works of the edition.

All participating works become part of the Official Event Catalogue in digital format — an international collective publication bringing together images, technical sheets and authorship details of every participant, shared with all artists, collaborators and members of the Box de Arte Curatorial team as a lasting record of their place in this international art project.

Postal art: a commitment to physical artwork in the digital age

Inhabiting the Same Moon is not a digital exhibition platform, nor a call for reproduced work. It is a postal art project that deliberately embraces the physicality of the artistic object — the time it takes to create a work by hand, pack it with care and send it to the other side of the world addressed to a specific person. Within that seemingly simple gesture lies a statement about the value of the handmade, of authorship and of genuine encounter between artists.

From Box de Arte Curatorial, a team with a strong background in cultural management and international artistic exchange, we believe that visual artists need serious, accessible spaces for circulation with real projection. This open call was born precisely from that conviction.

Open call for fine arts schools, galleries and cultural spaces

Inhabiting the Same Moon extends a special invitation to directors and teachers of fine arts and visual arts schools, art galleries, cultural centres and artistic management spaces from around the world. This international art project is an extraordinary opportunity for the artists within your communities to have their first — or next — international exchange experience, build networks with peers from other countries and add participation in a curatorial project with an Official Digital Catalogue to their artistic trajectory.

Institutions that choose to share this open call for visual artists within their communities will have their institutional logo included in all printed and digital communications of the project — promotional materials, Official Catalogue and audiovisual pieces — in recognition of their collaboration. A concrete and visible way to become part of a network that is connecting the art world across borders.

Two ways to take part in this international art project

· As a visual artist

Create your 4 original postcards, take part in the international postal art exchange and build your own collection of original works. Registration is completely free. The only financial commitment is covering your production materials and the postal shipping of the three works (estimated cost of between USD 5 and USD 10 depending on country of origin and destination).

· As a diffusion agent (galleries, fine arts schools, cultural spaces, managers, specialised media)

Share this open call for visual artists within your community and become part of the project's collaborator network. Your institutional logo will be included in all event communications, at no cost whatsoever. All we need is your logo in high resolution and the institutional details you would like to appear.
